Cyanotype Workshop with Harmony Jordan!

When: December 8, 12-2pm

Where: Shop Slow, 2058 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX, USA

Learn how to refresh your clothes through Cyanotype Printing. Email a photograph to have made into a transparency we will print in class! Send your high-res photos to hello@shopslow.co

For this class we have already pre-dyed vintage hankies so every person will be able to design their own! Upcycling is a huge component of this artists goal for sustainable art, so we hope you will love turning a vintage piece into your own artwork.

You can use it as a patch for clothing or frame it and hang it on the wall! Harmony has made stencils for all the major flora and fauna in Texas to choose from and has different materials to spell our words, or even sentences. Two examples of what we will be producing will are the hanky with the moon and bats as well as the hanky with the monarch butterflies. We will also provide cyanotype practice paper to try out your design before following through on the vintage hanky.

The cyanotype process is one of the earliest forms of photography. The process involves using chemistry & water to create a light-sensitive emulsion that reacts to a UV light source such as the sun or UV lamps. In this class, we'll learn a technique called photogram printing, wherein objects are placed directly atop of the light-sensitive emulsion.

About the Artist: Hello! My name is Harmony and I have been doing cyanotype art for a year now. It brings me a lot of joy to see the cool patterns expose themselves, it feels like magic! I’m passionate about making cyanotype and up-cycling materials, like vintage hankies or consignment clothing, for it. Music is one of my biggest inspirations for my pieces and I often want to paint a picture with images to represent my favorite songs.
