Create a custom hand embroidered reusable tote bag with Kaylah Banuelos of Okay Lahv

When: Oct 12 | Morning or Evening

Where: Shop Slow, South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX, USA

Threads and Totes is a beginner friendly class aimed at bringing anyone interested in hand embroidery into an inclusive and encouraging space to learn the art of hand stitching. The class is two hours long and in that time we will design and create a custom hand embroidered tote bag. Once the workshop is complete, you will leave with your tote bag, a heat sensitive pen to create your next piece, an embroidery hoop, and excess embroidery thread.

About the Artist: I am a small town Latina from West Texas. All of my hand embroidery techniques have been passed down to me from my grandma so my sewing is rooted in Mexican tradition (imagine the colorful dresses and garments from Mexico). I took the traditional techniques passed down to me and made them modern when I started embroidering on canvas tote bags. This allowed me to continue creating unique one of a kind designs and the wearer to own a bag that reflected their personal style allowing them the freedom of expression not always available in the fast fashion industry. As of now, I have been teaching classes for a year and have had such positive feedback from attendees it has encouraged me to look for space to expand.
